Gefallen: Like stepping into another world! The place is completely clean and quiet, but most of all it really does transform you to Japan. I would highly recommend calling the owners to organise their dinner options and Onsen bath - both added hugely to the experience. Couldn’t recommend this enough if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or a new experience in England. The owners helped make the stay fantastic, by having great communication and a willingness to make the stay special.

Gefallen: We found the garden beautiful and we were very impressed with the attention to detail and the little touches. You can tell that a lot of care and love has gone into making the space authentic and special. It was such a unique place to stay, perfect for getting away from it all. The onsen experience was a great start to our stay.

Nicht gefallen: The bathroom is beautifully designed but not so practical in terms of its size. When we arrived, there was leftover food already in the fridge therefore we had to rearrange them to make some space for our own food. Although the standard of cleanliness was very high, there were some not so obvious areas that had been missed.

Gefallen: The setting, gardens (and birds) and beautiful property

Nicht gefallen: The property itself is beautiful and in a lovely setting, which makes the rest of the experience more disappointing. The listing clearly shows a hot tub as a key feature and includes it under amenities, with no obvious indication at the time of booking (in 2025) that this required an additional £50 surcharge. We only received pricing information a few days before arrival. I have included screenshots from the Booking.com listing showing the hot tub clearly advertised as an amenity and “standout feature” with no mention of additional charge at the time. We were also contacted regarding optional dining (£75–£99pp). I asked to see the menu before deciding and, after reviewing it, chose not to go ahead. Following this, the atmosphere became noticeably uncomfortable. On arrival, the host had already prepared the hot tub assuming we would be using it, despite us not agreeing to the additional charge. Although checkout was stated as 10–10:30am, the host was knocking before 10am and entered with his wife to begin cleaning while we were still getting ready, including while one of us was in the bathroom. This felt intrusive and removed any sense of privacy or relaxation. The accommodation itself also felt more lived-in than expected for guest accommodation, with personal belongings, food in the fridge and household items left around. Overall, the property is visually lovely, but the communication, upselling, lack of privacy and uncomfortable hosting experience meant we would not return.

Gefallen: Very beautiful place. It feels like youre actually in Japan. The owners were super hospitable and welcoming. I would recommend staying. I genuinely felt like I was in another country. Peaceful, quiet just beautiful

Nicht gefallen: Bathroom very small and no empty cupboards to put things in. It was obvious at 10am he wanted us to leave asap!

Gefallen: Everything was exceptional, great attention to detail, did not feel like being in the UK at all, owner was very friendly and polite, overall amazing retreat. Definitely recommend!

Nicht gefallen: Might be helpful to have a more accessible mirror in the bedroom

Gefallen: A beautiful, quiet place to stay, lovingly decorated with authentic features and welcoming and gracious hosts. The onsen and specially curated, resturant quality meals (paid for seperately) were a wonderful extra experience which made a special place extra special!

Nicht gefallen: The bathroom is very, very small and not made for larger people. The whole place is traditional which means a lot of sitting on the floor, which isnt great for people with impaired mobility or flexability.
